Still working away on this ... I have calmed down a little and now decided to make 24 squares instead of 36 or 48 (!). This is the basic layout for design. I am glad I stumbled onto this because I find it gives the illusion of the quilt being bigger than it is. The exact colour arrangement isn't final ... also thinking I will likely put a border.

oh that's a cheerful quilt! I did something similar, but with 30's repros (still trying to use up my stash of those!), and a black and white through the center of each block. Only 16 blocks though. And my strips were 1.5", so it is definitely a baby quilt. I like yours so much I'm tempted to make another, and work on reducing my stash of brights...
I have been wanting to start a "trip" too with this tutorial, but Just haven't squeezed it in yet! Yours looks lovely!
