It's Starting To Look A Lot Like ... Christmas?

Anyone who has stopped by the blog before likely knows that Halloween is my favourite holiday of the year, so perhaps you are wondering why, in October, in Halloween high-season, I'm talking about Christmas.  Well, you have to plan ahead right?
And as part of getting ready for Christmas, nice and early, I've been asked to design a block for a Christmas sampler quilt along.  :-)
SO, to get you in the spirit (with plenty of time to spare), it's time to announce the '12 Days of Christmas' Sampler Quilt Along! Twelve bloggers will each create a unique 12.5" Christmas-themed block and prepare a tutorial to go along with it. The block instructions, available on each designers' blog, will be spread over a 6-week period, giving you plenty of time to join in! If you decide to quilt along with us, at the end of the 6 weeks, you will have a completed Christmas quilt top!
If you are planning on joining, Sara, the coordinator of this fun effort has suggested that the quilt top will require 12 fat quarters, or 1 layer cake.  I'll be just using scraps for mine, Christmas fabric bits I have as well as some red, green and white fabrics ... or who knows, I'll probably find a way to get some orange in there somehow. ;-) In addition, you will need approximately 1-1/2 yards of fabric for the sashing.
Here is the schedule for each of the 12 blocks.  On the respective date, you will be able to find the block/tutorial on the specified blog.  In true sampler style, the design of the block has been completely left up to the blogger doing the tutorial.  As far as I know, some will be applique and some will be pieced.  (Mine will definitely be pieced)  Each blogger will reveal their block on their hosting day, so it will all be a series of fun surprises!
And, as a side note, although it is called the 12 Days of Christmas Sampler Quilt Along, the blocks will not be following the song of the same name, so no worries about having to conjure up some wild paper pieced block with 8 Maids-a-Milking!!!  Blocks will be all holiday themed, a nice variety, and straight ahead, fun and modern!

Too funny I was just complaining on my blog about seeing a "sew along"or block online that you just HAVE to try no matter how many projects you have going!

can't wait to see what you come up with and if I can hold out not starting another sew along!

thanks and Happy Sewing

Hi Riel! That's a great idea and sound fun! I really need something to get a little bit Christmas mood - I'm worried if I get any inspiration to start Christmas sewings. I'm looking forward to see what you create!
